Dear Sir:
As you well know, too often work performed in the law?
enforcement field is taken for granted or overlooked, and for.
tthat reason.I am writing you this letter to commend certain'of
your'agents for their work in a case which I recentiy tried
and which resulted in the conviction of one CHARLEs EVAN
TuRvILLE fon.first degree murder.
The successful prosecution in this case was the end
Iproduct. of one of the best pieces of police work and one of the
best examples of cooperation between law enforcement agencies
that I'nave ever had the privilege of observing.
On the morning of August 27, l957, the body of a promineni

attorney was found in his office, obviously the victim of a
robbery murder. Through some very diligent work on the part of
the Los Angeles Police Department, the identity of one or the.
Special Agent Paul Luther of the Los Angeles Office of the FBI,
an Unlawful Flight warrant was obtained and information concern.
Jing the suspect was relayed to the Boston office.
The Boston
orfice checked out certain relatives of the suspect who were yE
'iiving in Pittsrield, Massachusetts, and there developed a lead
New York. This information was immediately transmitted to the
New York office, and a group of agents, under the supervision
of Special Agent John Mccardle, proeeeded to the location in -
Brooklyn, effected the apprehension of the suspect, recovered
stolen property which was in his possession, as well as the
clothing which he was wearing at the time of the murder, and
through very exeellent interrogation obtained a complete confes
/.The accomplice's name was.,immediately relayed back to the Los.
Angeles Police Department,/who appreherided the accomplice; and
by,the evening of August'29, just 48 hours after 'the commission
of the murder, both perpetrators of the crime were in custody!
