With the assistance of Records Management Division, the
original Bureau Abscam file 87-147437 consisting: of 23 sections
and 1,340 serials was reviewed, Xeroxed, and redacted for
production to U. S. District Court Judge.George C. Pratt, EDny,
and defense counsel for the above named individuals.
On 1/19/81, authority for release of these documents was
obtained from Francis M. Mullen, Jr., Executive Assistant
Director, with the concurrence of Irvin B. Nathan, Deputy
Assistant Attorney General, Department of Justice, and discussions
with.Thomas A. Kelley, Legal Research Unit, Legal Counsel Division
(LcD), and Robert F. Peterson, Civil Litigation Unit II, LCD.
On 1/20/81, Thomas P. Puccio, Chief, Federal Strike
Force, EDny, receipted for original Bureau file 87-147437 and.
various communications concerned with undercover activitie's
(receipt attached).
On the. same date, two letters were prepared by Lawrence
H. Sharf, Special Counsel, Federal Strike Force, EDny, to U. S.
District Court Judge George C. Pratt, EDny, relative to the. above
Bureau file and Brooklyn-Queens file 87-81067. Both letters are:
attached.
