Sheriff Hadaway was advised of the identity of the agent and the purpose of the interview. Sheriff Hadaway advised that he, was personally at the Mena Arkansas Airport at approximately 5:00 p.m. on May 18, 1983. Two airplanes landed. He observed one of them to be a Piper Seneca tail number 2931C. He stated ‘that® “the other one was not noted as far as the tail number. Sheriff. Hadaway stated that at the time of this incident the runway of the Mena Airport was torn up and under construction and it was not possible to cross the runway in an airplane taxiing. Sheriff Hadaway stated that: shortly after the Piper Seneca landed, he heard an airplane fire up its engines. He observéd that this aircraft was in. front of Freddie Hampton’s Hanger. He observéd that it was a Piper Seneca, he believes it was blue and white in color and the tail number was N8049Z. He observed the aircraft to rev both engines up to full throttle while the pilot stood on the brakes © until maximum revolutions were obtained at which time the pilot released the brakes and the aircraft made a short take off from the apron and not the runway. He estmiated that. the aircraft took off in less than 300 feet. Shortly afte he contacted his informant and w : Sheriff Hadaway advised that he has known. the informant for a period of and the informant has furnished reliable b6 information in the past that he has been able to corroborate through b7¢ independent investigation. The informant is in the_position to know b7D information being related concerning [and He has no reason to question the reliability or integrity - of -the informant. ; _ , this informant has been veporting to: him that are involved ina narcotic smuggling operation the’ Mena Arkansas Airport. The .informant advises that the person who is in charge and control of the smuggling. operation is known only as Barry from Baton Rouge and that: he is contacted on telephone number 504/377-6453.
