D. Arrests
1. Federal Indictment, Chicago, Illinois
The November 1, 1971 issue of "Tine," a weekly
magazine oublished in New York City, New York, on page 52
contained the following article:
"Mr, and Mrs, William M. Kunstler requested the
pleasure of the Chicago Seven's Company at a birthday party
in nonor of Black Panther Chairman Bobby Seale at their
home, West Street, Mamaroneck, N.Y. Tnis highlignt of the
social season gathered the 'conspirators' together,...for
the first time since tneir trial ended early in 1970. Draft
beer, chips and pretzels were served, and 55 year old Bobby
was presented with a dark blue sweater. After blowing out
the seven conspiratorial candles on his chocolate-frosted
caxe, the pirthday boy toasted ‘all revolutionaries and
political prisoners everywhere,'"
Those who were present at this affair were identified
elsewhere on page 52 as JOHN FROIGES, ABBIE HOFFMAN, RENVIE
DAVIS, lawyer LEONARD WEINGLASS, DAVID DELLINGER, BOBBY SEALE,
Layer WILLIAM KUNSTLER, LOTTE KUNSTLER, JERRY RUBIN, and LEE
- WEINER.
Regarding the above individuals, all
except WEINGLASS and KUNSTLER, were
defendants in the so-called Conspiracy
Seven trial, Chicago, from September,
1969, to February, 1970, having been
indicted earlier by a Federal Grand
Jury, Chicago, on charges of violation
of the Federal Antiriot Statute as a
result of actions involving the Demo-
cratic National Convention in August,
1968, in Cnicago. WEINGLASS and
KUNSTLER served as co-defense counsel
at this trial.
HOFFMAN, DAVIS, DELLINGER, RUBIN,. and
THOMAS HAYDEN (not present at this affair)
were found guilty by the trial jury,
however, FROINES and WEINER were acquitted.
