In his speech, Hoffman stated that the last hope of the American electorate is "McGovern", and that he and other members of the Chicago 7 would be in Miami for the Democratic convention. He continued that the oncoming election was to be a crucial and deternin+ ing factor in whether or not the United States would go "left" or "right" in the next decade. = It was noted that Hoffman appeared tired, and several times while speaking, he lost his train of thought after ashort burst of applause, and gave the appears ce of being slightly "confused". At the end of his speech, he also commented that in his opinion the appeal of his conviction in federal court in Chicago seemed to have little hope of success.
