"(u) The "Star - Ledger" a Newark, New Jersey daily newspaper in its May 7, 1971, issue on page 14 contained an article entitled "RENNIE and ABBIE Say Protestors Won in D.c.", which stated in part as rohtows i(ze) “Accompanied by University of Oregon professor JOHN FROINES, Yippie leader ABBIE HCFFMAN and attorney LEONARD WEINGLASS, DAVIS claimed ‘tthe government suffered defeat by tne demonstrations in Washnington,' and there would be a naticnal conference of anti-war groups to plan a second attempt to implement the peace treaty and end the war. (22) "HOFFMAN also predicted that 30 to 50 anti-war activists will be indicted soon as,a result of @ grand jury just empaneled in Washington, DC. fu) "tGrand juries are rubber stamps,' HOFFMAN charged. tWe expect more charges. The government can't accept the fact that it is morally and politically bankrupt.! LH) “Although demonstrators' attempts to 'close down the government! failed to do more than tie up traffic during rush hour on Monday, FROINES declared again last night, ‘We're going to shut down the government. '/z) "He described the series of demonstrations as a ‘most momentous event.' (.) "WOFFMAN went him one further.
