ve te gy Rk Bg ety, ca eR eS fe NY 100-161445 The May - June, 1969 issue of "The Humanist", self- @escribed,is a journal of contemporary ethical concern that attempts to serve as a bridge between the theoretical, philosophical discussions and the practical applications of humanism to ethical and social problems and the lives of individuals,on pagesthree through eight contained an article entitled, "An Interview with Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin" by PAUL}KURTZ, who is listed as the editor of the publication. During this interview the subject stated in part as follows: "Well, when we went to Chicago during the Democratic Convention, we went to have a festival of life. That's a very positive thing. We're saying that nobody looks at the Democrats and says, ‘That's decay, that's destruction; they aren't doing anytiing positive'. That's ridiculous. What we were doing was very positive. We are saying: 'We are the new society. How are we going to survive together?! . _ “We are for a change in the economic system because the economic system is based upon property. "If we want to start there, we can start there. You can start at a lot of places because there are values that come out of that system: There's religion, th> political system, and the information systen. "J think where it differs from Marx is that we don't * see the working class at General Motors ready to have the uprising. Maybe it's coming, but it isn’ '% there rignt now. And whatwe see is a very strange phenomenon: Where people who have a relatively good materialistic deal in life, like young people--their parents had it, lived through the depression, you know, and work, and all that--they're rejecting that; they're saying,no, we don't want that kind of life. Therefore, it becomes more existential than deterministic Marxist. It's more unexplain- able--you don't know why, you just know why because that thing isn't working. Te XE _
