The following references on Abbie Hoffman appear in the file captioned "Disturbances Arising Out of the Democratic National Convention” (DNC) and pertain to Hoffman's participation and involvment 4n the marches, rallies and demonstrations in Grant and Lincoln Parxs in Chicago in August 1965, during the DNC. Hoffman was known as the organizer of the YIP and the leader of "yippy” movement. He made Speeches and enco'raged the demonstrators to use weapons, and also encouraged Girect confrontation with the police. Hoffman was considered bne of the greatest agitatars whose motive was to disrupt the convention, enbarass the mayor and maxe it appear that they were being oppressed. Hoffman was arrested on 8/28/68 for having an obscene word written on his forehead. He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Hoffman also participated in the disorders at Columbia University in New York.
