At 1:00 PM, five of the individuals, including
Ramona Ripston and Rerinie Davis, departed from the meeting
om and proceeded to the Commodore Bar leaving David
Dellinger and two unidentified males in the meeting room
ay where they appeared to be holding a discussion.
aa At 1: 30 PM, David Dellinger and the two unident-
ified individuals left Parlor B and departed from the
Commodore Hotel.
After the meeting, SAS of the FBI obtained a
copy of a NECLC news release dated September 25, 1968,
which had been abandoned in the meeting room.
This news release states in part as follows:
"The National Emergency Civil Liberties Committee
today condemned the forthcoming House Un-American
Activities Committee hearings as an ‘attempt by the
Johnson Administration to use every mechanism at its
disposal to legitimize the action of Mayor Daley and
the Chicago police. It is a continuation of the crack-
mS down on dissent which began in Chicago under the aegis
ee of Mayor Daley, but it is now being openly taken over
- by the Federal: Government.'
"'Both the HUAC hearings and the harassment by .
the F.B.I. of persons who were in Chicago - including
delegates to the Convention shows that the government
4s not really interested in an investigation of what
ee happened in Chicago, but in discrediting the peace
movement and the people who went to Chicago to exercise
—_—- their constitutional rights.' ;
"tIn all of its history the House Un-American
Activities Committee has functioned only to penalize
individual Americans for exercisjng their rights to
Tie ° free speech, press, assembly and association and to
iy ? stifle such exercise on the part of others by creating
: fear of similar penalties.'
