After the meeting, SAS of the FBI obtained a copy of a NECLC news release dated September 25, 1968, which had been abandoned in the meeting room. This news release states in part as follows: "The National Emergency Civil Liberties Committee today condemned the forthcoming House Un-American Activities Committee hearings as an ‘attempt by the Johnson Administration to use every mechanism at its disposal to legitimize the action of Mayor Daley and the Chicago police. It is a continuation of the crack- mS down on dissent which began in Chicago under the aegis ee of Mayor Daley, but it is now being openly taken over - by the Federal: Government.'
