that Abbott Hoffman, also known age Abbie Hoffman, a self-
ke. proclaimed leader of the Youth International Party (YIP),
pe’. also known as "Yippies," was arrested at 11:20 AM on Septem-
a ber 17, 1968, at O'Hare International Airport, Chicago,
F Tllinois on arriving from New York City Aboard Flight 315
of Trans World Airlines. Hoffman was accompanied on the flight by
b a New York City attorney, Gerald Lefcourte, who was to repre-
~ sent Hoffman in City Criminal proceedings pending in Chicago,
Illinois,
i Hoffman was arrested on this occasion on the basis of
bd a warrant issued by Judge Louis J. Giliberto, Branch 47, City
ae Court, Chicago, Illinois, for failure to appear before that
be court on September 6, 1968, as directed, @n. being released on
. bond; to answer complaints concerning HoOfrfmatits arrests by
i. the Chicago Police Department on August 28, 1968, charging
him with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, which
occurred during disturbance activity while the Democratic
National Convention (DNC) was in progress. AS a result of
the arrest on September 17, 1968, Hoffmatt was charged with
jumping bond jnfailing to appear before the court on September 6, 196!
ag directed, and for unlawful possession of a weapon.
The weapon was described as a knife with a four inch blade
which wags found on Hoffman's person during a search
following his September 17, 1968, arrest by the Chicag- Police
Department.
On September 17, 1968, facts regarding Hoffman's
carrying a knife on his person aboard an interstate airline
carrier from New York City to Chicago, Illinois, in violation
of the crime aboard aircraft Federal statute, were presented
by a Special Agent (SA) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI) to United States Attorney Thomas A. Foran at Chicago,
Tllinois. Mr. Foran authorized prosecution of Hoffman for
violation of the crime aboard aircraft Federal statute.
