On March 13, 1987,[ ed was advised of the b6 identity of the interviewing Agent and of the nature of the inquiry. bIC was interviewed in connection with his alleged threats against the lives of Supreme Court Justices THURGOOD MARSHALL and HARRY BLACKMUN. CL d|denied making any statement or statements that he was going to Washington, D.C., and kill Justice BLACKMUN and/or Justice MARSHALL. P___]#¢ say he made the following statement to several individuals who are on the staff of the VETERANS ADMINISTRATION (VA) HOSPITAL on Highland Drive in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: "BLACKMUN should be arrested, impeached and executed for his (BLACKMUN's) »§ role in WADE versus ROE (1973)." He_denied ever saying he was bic personally going to kiil anyone and said he has no plans to go to Washington, D.C., for this or any other purpose. [——Jsaia he was very “angry and upset" when he made the above statement to VA staff members on February 25, 1987. [_]said he was “angry and upset" after viewing a television program dealing with the topic of abortion which was broadcast on Pittsburgh television station WPCP-TV (channel 40) on the preceding evening. [_]said he made the above statement because of Justice BLACKMUN's "pro-choice abortion stand," and[__] added he “still feels that way." entered the VA facility voluntarily, under the b6 advice of Staff Psychiatrist [bre told him he was "psychotic." [J was released from the VA on March 12, 1987. He would have been released earlier but was detained by hospital officials following his statements regarding the Supreme Court Justices. CL Jwas cooperative and answered all questions during b6 the interview. He signed a waiver which allowed the FEDERAL BUREAU OF b7C INVESTIGATION (FBI) access to his medical file at the VA. said he was classified as an expert rifleman while in the service but denied owning any guns at present.
