in connection with various legal matters concerning the de-
segregation of schools in the United States and in this capacity
bad carried on legal research for MARSHALL who, as chief legal
counsel of the NAACP, had carried out the litigations throughout
the United States in an effort to gain desegregation in schoola.
Be stated further that his association with MARSHALL also
extended to social activities as well as Bar Association
meetings. stated that he is not acquainted with
MARSHALL's fanily, however, it is his understanding that
MARSHALL's first wife is deceased and he has rewarried,
another associate of MARSHALL
with whom he is not acquainted.
