218, 1943, quoted Marsholl aa stating that the recent race ricts
tn Detroit were attributed to aubversive groups. He discussed
drey treatment of Negroes and was very prateeworthy of the way
tn which the Army and entire Federal government trected Negro
people. He stated this was not true of very many local agenctes.
Borshall added that the colored people had more to lose should ~-

necessary tn 1943 to hold twe meetings before officers could
be elected. She admitted that early in 1945 and during the year
1942 she had attempted to work with Communist Party members in
the Asecctation tn harmony. After they could not agree on the
new officers at the rst meeting, they held another meeting on
December 3, 1943. attempted to turn the chatr over to
one VYesley Feoples and tmmediately the Communtst Party members
objected and recommended another person as Chatrman. After
much argument, tt woe finally decided to draft Thurocod Marshall
