zation?
A—He must be a while man, a Protestant person who believes
in the tenets of (he Christian Religion, and of sane mind, of course.
Q—Do you ao any screening of people to keep out undesirable
elements or people who might have criminal records, or anything like
that?
A—The very Lest that it is possible to do.
Q—What do you do after you have gotlen members in if you
find out that they are involved in viglations of law?
A— {No answer.)
Q—How do you lake care of that, how do you handle that within
your organization ?
A—Any member or any person, for that matler, whose unlewlul
acty come io the attention of our people are reperted to the proper
authorities. Our organization does not harbor these who esi
untawful acts.
Q—Are they allowed to remain in the organization?
A—Nou, sir, this Order does not provide for a person who con-
ducts himself contrary io the tenefs of the law he has sworn to
uphold, rather than to violate. As soon us any act of unlawfuluesa
is discovered on the part of a member of this Order, he is immediately
expelled.
Q— Approximately how many members do you have in the State
of Louisiana, Mr. Edwards?
A—I am not at liberty to answer that question, Mr. Rogers.

Q—What are the objectives of your organization?
A—The objectives of this Order shall be to unite all white male
persons, native-born gentiles of the United States who owe ne al-
leziance of any nature to any other government, nation, institution,
ruler, sect or people; tu unite people whose morals are good, whose
reputations and vocations ure respectable, whose habits are exemplary,
who are of sound mind, und 21 years of age or more, lo a common
oath of brotherhood of strict regulations, und also to eullivate
and promote patristism toward our civil government,
Q—After you unite them, iy the function of the organization di-
rected solely al improving yourselves, the members, or do you have
sume outward manifestation of your objectives?
A—Certainly it has us ita objective to improve the individual, and
| think this is best done by virtue of the fact that we hele Christ
limself as our criterion of character, and never in a Klavern meeting:
will aw person stay without hearing the name of Christ proclaimed,

will find it hard to determine any difference in the works of the
people in this Order und in any other civic service, or social urgun’. -

gation in any way directed, toward political action?
A—No, «ir, | couldn't say that they are directed toward political
action, but certainly men with these objectives would participate in
governmental affairs; that’s a responsibility of uny citizen.
Q—How do you propose to realize the objectives that you have
set furth here, by any means other than education?
A—Whit other means are there?
Q—Whiat is the attitude of your organization toward violence?
A—A member of this Order is not going to engage in violence.
