MISSING PERSON
On the evening of November 8, 1974, at approxi-
mately 16:10 P.M., Debra Kent, a 17-year-old high school
girl, was attending a play at the Viewmont High School
auditorium at Bountiful, Utah, with her parents. Her father,
who is an official of a local oil company, asked Debra to
take the family car, which was parked in the school parking
lot, and to pick up her younger brother who was expecting
the family. Debra took the keys to the car and left the
auditorium, and has not been seen sinee that time.
As has been previously reported, Melissa Smith,
daughter of the Chief of Police of Midvale, Utah, disappeared
on a Friday avening sometime after 9:00 P.M. after she had
visited a girl friend. On the evening of October 26, 1974,
the body of Melissa Smith was found in a heavily wooded area
east of Sait Lake City, Utah, at a point known as Summit Park.
Medical examination disclosed her death to have been caused
by a massive brain hemorrhage. She had been sexually assaulted,
a stocking had been tied around her throat, and she had been
badly beaten about the head.
Similarities in the two incidents have caused in-
tensive investigation by law enforcement officers in the
entire Salt Lake City area.
On the evening of Friday, November 8, 1974, a young
girl, approximately 17 years of age, was approached by a white
male in his late 20's who displayed a badge and told her he was
an officer and asked her to accompany him to where her car was
parked as there was some trouble in the parking lot. This
occurred at the Fashion Place Mall, an area frequented by
- Bureau. “
