Pat) ical ad Me, wan) 4 > a ungen tifieniaitirns ipa RP Er meee . ne eT 91 Senator Gotpwatra. I hope what you have on me is not called s dossier. . Mr. Apama. No, sir; it’s « collection of material. [Ranaral langhter Lweawe ms alata ~ hiatedeate «43 Mr. Anas. Of which you are aware. o, Senator Gotpwater. That's right. Now let me ask 7 the informs- tion you have would probably be on computer tape Mr. Apams. No, sir. Senator Gotpwarer. It’s not. Information that IRS would have, is that computerized f . Mr. Apams. It may be. I'm not familiar with the extent of theirs. We do have certain computer activities, such as the National Crime Information Center, or we have, I guess, 7 or 8 million records, This is not the usual file material. This consists of individuals concerning : whom « warrant is outstanding, stolen property, material such as this, and also some documented criminal history information in the nature of prior arrest history. but not what I think you are referring to in the way of file material, reports, intelligence, this type of information. Senator Gotpwater. What I am trying to get at. is there a central source of computerized material that would include your information, the information that IRS may have gathered. information that had been gathered off of personnel records of the Pentagont Mr. Apame.No,sir. . Senator Gotpwater. There's no such list that you know of? Mr. Apame. I don't know what other agencies have, but the FBI does not have such a list, does not have such capability to interface with such a list, if such a list exists. . : Senator Gorpwatsr. Do you feel rather safe in saying then that _ ho agency of Government has put together such a computerized total of all the information on the people that you have surveilled ? Mr. Apams. Oh, I think it is safe to say I don’t know of any. Today I am not saving what does exist or doesn’t exist elsewhere. Senator Gotpwater. In addition to the 500,000 records that you have, would I be correct in saying that you have 50 million data cards and that there’s $82 million spent on intelligence in the fiscal year 1975 to maintain this library f Mr. Apams. No; I don't think that is correct. I think the figure of $82 million is what our budget people have drawn up as being the total cost in a given year of our intelligence operations, security, criminal, organized crime, the whole intelligence field. But I don’t relate it to the maintenance of any data cards. Senator Gorpwater. Now one other area. and I think it probably, according to the records. goes back to 1970. How did the Bureau come to place the so-called Women’s Lib movement under surveillance. and I say so-called because I think we discovered that there was no such organized movement. | ; ; Mr. Apascx. There were a lot of movements. It is my recollection— T have not reviewed the file in detail, but it is my recollection that the case was originally opened because of indications that certain Proups were attempting to infiltrate or control the Women’s Libere- tion movement. The investieation was conducted and was terminated several years ago, as far as I know. aes - ‘ “y a ea o.. Steg abe,
