Various witnesses and others have assumed the right to declare the basis upon which I have predicated this bill. They charge me with seeking to punish the Supreme Court. I would not be adverse to admitting this charge, l. it were true; because I think some of the recent decisions warrant punishment, at least to the old-fashioned extent of being required to stand in the corner, Sut punishment was not the objective of the bill; and in fact, the bill would not and could not punish the Court, The Supreme Court has no vested interest in any case or any class of cases that comes before it, The compensation of the Justices will not be affected in any way if my bill is passed. Working hours will not be affected.
