Co The file contained a recommendation for a “Senior. Class Humanity Award," which stated in part that CARMICHAEL had worked in voter registration in the State of Mississippi “enduring manyhardships for his people."' He was a member of the Cultural Committee for Mississippi Negroes. The recommendation also indicated that he was active in racial demonstrations in Georgia; North Carolina; Danville, Virginia; and Baltimore, Maryland. The recommendation stated that CARMICHAEL's work in "Civil Rights for his people" made him a good choice for the award.
