"In your entire eulogizing performance, not
once, repeat, not once did you ask Allen about
Senator Thomas Dodd's (D.-Conn.) charges that the
Hollywood for SANE was a Communist front. Ina
speech that Dodd made in the Senate on September
14, 1960, he stated that the SARE group was being
seriously infiltrated by members of the United
States Communist Party, and, in many cases, being
controlled by Reds.
"Not once in the entire ‘interview’ did you ask
allen about Rep. Francis Walter's (D.-Penn. )
arraignments that the SANE group, from top to
bottom, was Communistic; that the SANE rallies
across the country are Communist arranged and
are participated in by Communists; that many of
the SANEites in Hollywood alone, have long loaned
their names to pro-Red causes; and that the main
intent of the members of SANE was to beguile the
American public and turn them into aotivities
against this nation and not even realize it.
"Apparently, all of this was not germane
enough for you.
"Nor was it important enough, apparently, in
your own opinion, to ask Allen about the list of
names that were published in the right-wing (pro-
American) publications, the National Review, that did
show just a diminutive portion of the onea in SANE
who have Communist gravitational tendencies,
