LEVISON said that it would be worthwhile for JONES to call KING and find out the specific points that President KENNEDY had made in his conversation with KING because these points could be used as a guide-line by KING to determine the administration's thinking with respect to the civil rights problem. On January 28, 1963, LEVISON had a discussion with New York attorney WILLIAM KUNTSLER concerning the Negro student at Mississippi University, JAMES MEREDITH. KUNTSLER stated that he had recently s poken to MEREDITH and that MEREDITH indicated that although his credits will be good enough for him to stay at the University, someone is try ing to get FEREDITH to write a book which would require him dropping out of school. KUNTSLER suggested to LEVISON that MARTIN LUTHER KING call MEREDITH concerning this and that KING advise MEREDITH to stay at the Universi of Mssissippi and to forget about writing the book. Be ] On January 31, 1963, LEVISON, in conversation with another New York attorney SHaD POLIER, discussed the fact that a white attorney by the name of WILLIAM HIGGS (ph) in Jackson, Mssissippi, was going to be framed by the State of Mississippi on a sodomy charge. According to LEVISON, HIGGS expected to be arrested very shortly. PCLIER indicated that he was aware of this situation and also that HIGGS was to receive an award in New York City on the 12th of February. LEVISON told POLIER that HIGGS had tutored JAMES MEREDITH, and had _ worked with MEREDITH's attorney. POLIER and LEVISON then discussed various means of obtaining funds for HIGGS defense, and the strategy that should be used in connection with defense.
