(Disseminated by airtel and LHM dated 6/23/67 captioned “CIRM".) 7/10/67 WY 100-111180 CON NTIAL 6/23/67 - LEVISON was in contact with ANDREW YOUNG that date concerning an article which appeared in the 7/9/67 edition of "The New York Times" which stated that MARTIN LUTHER - KING, Jr. would be the keynote speaker at a New Left Con- vention in Chicago on 8/31/67. LEVISON supplied YOUNG with a speech for KING, written by LEVISON, in which KING denied that he was seeking a third party Presidential nomination for 1968 and emphasizing the fact that KING was only a speaker at the convention. (Disseminated by airtel and LHM dated 7/10/67, captioned "MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.") 7/11/67 LEVISON was in contact that date with MARTIN LUTHER KING and CHAUNCEY ESKRIDGE, Chicago attorney. KING asked LEVISON's advice on the advisability of having former heavyweight boxing champion CASSIUS CLAY (MUHAMMAD ALI) fight an exhibition in California with the proceeds to go to the SCLC. LEVISON felt this was a good idea. On this date LEVISON conferred with HARRY WACHTEL concerning KING's appearance as the keynote speaker at the New Left Convention in Chicago on 8/31/67. WACHTEL was upset at this decision and LEVISON explained that ANDREW YOUNG and ANN FARNSWORTH, who has contributed $100,000.00 to the SCLC persuaded KING to accept the speech.
