The letterhead memorandum makes reference to a
conversation between MARTIN LUTHER KING and CLARENCE JONES
wherein JONES makes reference to "our friend". "Our friend"
is undoubtedly STANLEY LEVISON. The full text of the
conversation at this point is as follows: {y”
JONES states "Well, let me reflect upon it and I'll
discuss it with our friend and get his feelings about it".
KING states "He understands why I haven't called him?" JONES
answers "Yes, absolutely, in fact, he would be a little upset
if you did", KING then states "I'm trying to wait until
things cool off ..... until this civil rights debate is over
