On October 1, 1953, a confidential source, who has
furnished reliable information .n the past, furnished information
which indicated that on that date, Stanley Levison held a
discussion with Clarence Jones about a book written by Martin
Luther King soon to be published.
Jones remarked that King is very much concerned about
finishing his book and is particularly concerned about writing
an effective chapter concerning Birmingham, Jones stated that
King is coming to New York on Saturday at which time he plans
to make inquiries on the progress of his book,
Levison remarked that the chapter following the
one on Birmingham is very dull and will need 4 lot of rewriting.
He said that King discussed his book with persons in Richmond
and the impression is that King's book will be " the book of
books" and will be released shortly.
Levison told Jones thet he had something to discuss
with him @nd would like to see him that evening. Jones
agreed to meet with Levison that evening after dinner,
