Dear Senator Eastland: Recently, as a result of an interview I had with a . representative of a national television network, I have discovered . that an answer I gave to a question posed by Senator Edward Kennedy ‘ during my confirmation hearings was not entirely accurate. f The exchange in question appears on page 44 of the At printed hearings. ‘The matter concerns the alleged misuse of (e Py information obtained by the Lenexa, Kansas, Police Department iW g fi from the computer network being operated by the Kansas City Police ‘ Department while I was Chief of that Department. i aa I stated during the hearings that it had been discovered . a Lenexa police officer apparently was making inquiries over the computer network for a rental agency and some businessmen, and Nu that he had been reprimanded and the Lenexa Police Department advised 4 ‘ any further such violations could mean its terminal would be taken away. i now find that statement, which was based on my recollection of information furnished to me in 1970 by a subordinate eormmand officer in Kansas City, was hot entirely accurate. i had been told a letter was being sent to the Lenexa Chief of Police concerning this .
