I", who has been identified. as a State Department employee, In connection with McCarthy's statement he used an "Brhibit", which was an eleven page document bearing the label "United States Civil Service Commission ~ Investigations Position —- Report of Investigation", which document purported to set forth information concerning "Mr. X*. Further reference is made to Bolet to Washington Field Office dated Angoust 7, 1950, instituting an investigation at the request of the Department in an effort to determine the source from which Senator McCarthy obtained the. infor- mation set forth in his "Bchibit®, By teletype dated August 8, 1950, the Buresu Laboratory vas requested by Washington Field Office to make the following examinations: (1) Make a comparison of the typing appearing on Senator McCarthy's statement of July 2, a copy of which is attached hereto and marked , $1, with the typing appearing on the "Zxchibdit* used by MoCarthy, a copy * of is attached bereto and marked Exhibit ¢2, in an effort to determine - whgthe these two documents were prepared on the same typewriter. x SURE PRED Pm (2).
