He was not called &S a witness nor did he appear in response to the invitations While there was no duty upon him, under the circumstances. to tesiity at this hearing. the prominence of his per- sonne. in the antl Tydings campaign and the activity attributed to the Senator himse!f by certain witnesses might properly have been explained by him From the testimony !t appears Senator McCarTHy was a leading and potent force in the campaign against Serna- tor Tydings. The VICE PRESIDENT. The resolu- tion will be received and referred to the Committee on Rules and Administration. The resolution «S. Res. 187) submitted by Mr. Bexton was referred to the Com- mittee on Rules and Administration, as follows: Whereas the Subcommittee on Privileges and Elections of the Committee on Rules and Administration has made a unanimous report to such cammiuttee with respect to the 1950 Maryland senatorial genera; election; and Whereas such report contains findings with respect to the financing of the campaign of Seastor JOHN MarsHact BUTter, as follows: “1. AS g result of the investication and hearings of this subcommittee, Jon M. Jon- kel, the campaign manarer of Senator But- LER, has been indicted. plead guilty tc. and ha: been sentenced for, violation of the Maryiand election laws for failure to proper :y report contributions and expendiures in ihe Butler campaign “2.
