Recognizing that the best record is the transcript itself,
on April 24, 1950 a memorandum was sent to Assistant Attorney General
James M. MeInerney, pointing out that the Department might wish to
arrayge to receive copies of the official transcript of all testimony
before the Subcommittee concerning Owen Lattimore. By memorandum dated
Kay 12, 1950, it was again sug, ested to Mr. McInerney that the Crininal
Division might wish to errenge to secure such transcripts and inquiry
wes made of Mr. McInerney as to whether such meterial was evaillable.
telephonically advised that the Department now has a single copy of
the transcript and that although he is required to follow the matter
closely and would like to keep the transeript, he would gladly make
it available to the Burean for photostating.
