Backgrounds
Stephen Brunauer was born February 12, 1903, in Budapest, Hungary, and waa
naturalized in New York City on September 1, 1927. He attended City College of
Wew York and received his A.B. degree from Columbia University, New York City, in
1925. He received a Ph.D. degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1933.
1926, he married Anna Friedman and divorced her in March, 1953. In the same year he |
married Esther Caukin. He was employed by the Department of Agriculture as a Chemist
from 1928 to October, 1942. He was appointed a Lieutenant in the U. &. Naval Reserve
in August, 1942, was promoted to Lt. Commander, September 50, 1943, and was promoted
to Commander, November 9, 1945. He was relieved from active duty November 13, 1946,
and given a certificate of honorable service. He entered on duty September GS, 1946,
as a Technologist, High Explosives, with the Bureau of Naval Ordnance. ,
