that time, our files reveal the following information which
may relate to hin.
The March 7,.1972, issue of "The Daily World,” a
communist publication, reported that an all-star show had raised _..
$38,000 for the Angela Davis defense fund. It noted that :
Sammy Davis, Jr., told the crowd of 6,500 that he wears a "Free
Angela" button because he shares "her blackness." (100-461537-A) ~—
Our files further reveal that on the same occasion,
Mr. Davis noted that while he does not necessarily share the ies
political convictions of Angela Davis, he supports her because
she is a black woman. This benefit was sponsored by the
Southern California District Communist Party, although this

= Civil Rights League (IACRL) was actively advertising a fund ©
1 9 raising “night of entertainment" scheduled for June 4, 1972, _

. 2 IACRL was formed in May of 1970 with several members of the 2269
=X organized crime element as its officers. The League was an ™

ae ; demonstrations were originated and arranged by Joe Colombo, Sr. :
ae identified as a leader of an organized crime element in New York,
City, who was shot and gravely wounded at an IACRL- sponsored
