the situation in the Sufrolk-Nansemond County, Virginia, area
pertaining to the efforts of Local 26, Distributive Workers of
America Union, Suffolk, Virginia, to be recognized by the Louise
Obici Memorial Hospital has remained calm and no acts of vjolence
have occurred.

, dvised that ropysikins, Executive Secretary
of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
(NAACP) had appeared in Suffolk, Virginia, on November 6, 1968,
at which time he had spoken before approximately 300 people, primarily
Negroes, at the Metropolitan Baptist Church in support of the efforts
of Local 26 to be recognized by hospital officials. Wilkins stated
that the Negroes had no quarrel with the Chief of Police or law
enforcement officers, and likewise did not have any quarrel with
