He did not know the exact date that Wilkins was to be in Selma, nor did he know the nature of Wilkins’ visit. It was his conjecture that Wilkins was probably coming to Selma in order to remold and regroup support from the responsi- ble members of the Negro community, many of whom have become diescruntled with the Reverend Louie Lord Anderson and some of wh ey TE a OF web OT SS ee ee Se the direct action activities of the Southern Christian Leader- ship Conference (SCLC). «Wilkins wi n Seima, abama, on July 24, 1969, and will deliver a speech at the Selma University Auditorium at 8 p.m. on that date. The source further advised that the Reverend C. A. Lett, 821 First Avenue, Selma, Alabama, who is the Pastor of the Greene Street Baptist Church, is in charge of all arrangements in Selma, Alabama, in preparation for Wilkins’ visit. Reverend Lett is the Treasurer of Selma University and is also Treasurer of the Negro Alabama State Baptist Con- vention. VO WEEN 34 not expect any donon- strations in connection with Wilkins’ visit from within the NAACP but stated that SCLC might possibly stage some type of march in order to voice their opposition to recent stands on racial issues taken by the NAACP, This source stated he did not really expect this to develop but was just mentioning it as a possibility.
