The references listed below in the file captioned "Racial
Matters" set forth the activities of Roy Wilkins as executive director
of the NAACP during the period 1/10/66 to 1/27/69. He addressed
several affairs in the District of Columbia, Tennessee, Ohio, NY, South
Carolina, Missouri and Mississippi and was scheduled to appear or to spez
at other functions in Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana.
These gatherings included civil rights meetings, protest rallies and
regular NAACP conferences, Wilkins’ topics primarily concerned racial
murders, discriminatory employment practices, voter registration and
open housing legislation. Wilkins took a moderate stand on civil
rights issues and claimed that violence was not the solution to Negro.

country through the NAACP, Statements made by him regarding violence
and unfair practices against the Negro were set out. Also mentioned
was his appearance on TV's ‘Meet The Press" and his visit to the White
House.
