The “New York Amster News" a NY Weekly Negro newspaper,
of 1/20/62, reported that the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights
(62-107653) would stage a mass mobilization of civil rights leaders
throughout the country to Washington, D.C., in early March, 1962,
to seek bi-partisan support behind certain civil rights bilis. Roy
Wilkins, Chairman of the Leadership sroup and Executive Secretary of
the NAACP, stated, according to this article, that this year's :
mobilization would not seek to have a large mass of people but to have .
- a wide cross section of representation from ali parts of the country,
"to show that we don't agree with the Kennedy Administration's civil i
rights position---." Wilkins said the Leaders Conference represented.
