A Bureau memo dated 4-24-57 captioned, "March
on Washington, May 1957," indicated that Roy Wilkins,
Executive Secretary of the NAACP was one of the leaders
of the demonstration which was scheduled to take place
in Washington, D.C. on 5-17-57,
A Bureau meno dated 4-26-57, containing a sumnary
of data regarding the March on Washington, which was prepared
for dissenination, stated that Roy Wilkins was co-chairnan
of the Prayer Pilgrimage and headquarters had heen established
at the NAACP office at 20 West 40th Street, NYC. The meno
also noted Roy Wilkins, Erecutive Secretary of the MAACP,
the sponsoring organization, had estimated that 50,000 people
would participate in the "prayer pilgrimage for freedon.”
