The "Daily Worker" for February 12, 1937,- contained:
an article entitled, "Nine Resign from Trotzky | ‘Defense Li sewn.
Committee for the Defense of Leon frotzky, according
announcement that day on behalf of the 60 Liberals”
the Open Letter to American Liberals protesting against the
Open Letter declared that while the Trotzky Defense Committe
was ostensibly formed in defense of certain principhés of:
civil liberties, its present activities could only bé inter-
preted as "political intervention in the internal affairs:
the Soviet Union with hostile intent." Prof. Robert S. Lynd,
of Columbia University, was among the 60 persons who signe
this letter.

also set forth. In this article under the list of signers...
