The DenNalur mentioned that this Calle 2MUUL AS a result of the fact he had personally told the Attorney General- designate that such a letter should be sent up inasmuch as all other appointees were definitely being investigated by the FBI. The Senator stated that while he was favorably disposed toward the new Attorney General, at the same time he felt that he was no better than anyone else. _ Senator Eastland inquired a. whether the letters were coming up concerning the Deputy Attorney General and ad the Solicitor General. I told him we had received no such requests. He stated he had issued instructions to the Attorney I General-designate to also have letters come up for Messrs. White and Cox. He ~ stressed the fact, however, that we should not mention this to the attorney General- designate unless he specifically brought it to our attention.
