on * ee ae CSTE i of unknown reliabilit advised on that TEASY PETTUS had made arrangements for certain advertising 0 the PAUL ROBESON Concert May 20 sponsored by the National Negro Labor Council and the PAUL ROBISON Birthday Concert Committee, Informant stated b [ that PETTUS was apparently in charge of the joint committee sponsoring the concert, , , eee The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, a daily newspaper published at Seattle, Washington, in its issue for May 10, 1952, printed etter to the paper over the names of LESMXCATLETT, Chairman, and ELEANOR.NELSON, Secretary, ROBESON Concert Committee. The following information more fully identifies the Negro Labor Council, LESTER CATLETT and ELEANOR NELSON, Confidential Informant Seattle (A of known | reliability, has advised that the members of the 12th District Commmnist Party Negro Commission and certain & other members of the Party had met at Seattle on April 27, 1950 to consider the formation of the Negro Trade Union Council as a weapon to sectire increased employment of, and to combat labor union and other discrimination against, the Negroes, Among the persons in attendance were CHARLES NICHOLS and LENZIE SHELLMAN, A leafiet, "Want Work In a Logging Camp or Sawmill?" distributed in Seattle, invited those interested in employment in the lumbering industry to attend a public meeting and registration of the Trade Union Council for Negro Rights to be held at Seattle January 27, 1951. This leaflet listed the officers of the organization as CHARLES NICHOLS, Chairman; EARL GEORGE, Secretary; and LENZIE SHELLMAN, Executive Director. The leaflet also referred to the same organization as the Seattle Labor Council for Negro Rights. a
