The former New York newspaper "FM" in its January 15, 1948, issue
reported that ROBESON would sing et a benefit to be held at Manhattan Center
New York, on January 19, 1948, under the auspices of the United Public Workers
of America~—C10.
The "Daily Worker" issue of January 19, 1948, reported that the
2nd Annual Convention of the Progressive Citizens of America, held at Chicago
on the previous date, suthorized the FCA National Board and State Chapters
to take steps toward affiliation or merger with the 3rd Party started by
HENRY WALLACE, Among the Vice Chairmen elected at thea convention was PAUL
ROBESON.
On January 29, 1948, the "New York Herald Tribune" reported that
PAUL ROBESON had been one of the principal speakers at a rally of the Inter-
national Ladies Garment Workers Union held at the Yugoslav American Home,
405 West 4ist Street, New York City, on the same date. The rally was spon-
sored by the Civil Rights Congress of New York. ROBESON, who spoke at the
rally, discussed "Thought Control or Freedom,"
The subject, according to the "Daily Worker" issue of February 6,
1948, was one of the three speakers scheduled to appear at the 4th Anniversary
Dinner of the JEPFERSON SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCE, Communist Party front group,
