hoe Paul Robeson at Peoria, Illinois, was called off by the City Council. Paul Robeson,

New York City, assailed the Peorle City Council which had unanimously adopted a
resolution condemming an appearance there of "any speaker or artist who is an avowed
or active propagandist for un-Aperican ideology." <Aocording te the article, Mayor
_+ Carl 0. Triebel had reversed an earlier approval for the use of the City Hall which |

t< , « Mayor's reversal, according te the article, was based on his fear of "riots or dis-
. turbances." In a statement the Mayor had inferred that "Robeson is coming here for
