PH 100- 38128 The October 17, 1967, issue of "The Worker,” the Sunday edition of the "Daily Worker," an east cosst Commnist newspaper, which hes since gone out of business, page 3, carried a four column article concerning the subject and steted in the last paragraph, "PAJL ROBESON, now 69, suffered serious injuries in a fall in 1965..." an announcement was made thet on April 13, 1959, there would be a cultural program celebrating the 71st birthday of PAUL ROBESON et the Joe Louis Theater, 35th Street and Michigan Avenue, Chicago, T1l. ce * - wes held on and an announce nent wes made of @ birthday celeBration on April 13, 19659, for PAUL ROBESON, - sdonsored by the African-Americen Heritage Association (AAHA). ee The event was to be held at the Joe Louis Theater, Chicago, Ill. On furnished information that ean anniversary celebration, sponsored by the AAHA, was held on April 13, 1959, in honor of PAUL ROBESON. The affair was held at the Joe Louis Theater, Chicago, I1ll., and WILLIAM PATTERSON, described es a CP leader from New York, was the main speaker. advised 1 that ROBESON w was very and coulad not attend the célebration in his honor held An article in the "Philadelphia Tribune," a daily Philadelphia newspever, on August 9, 1969, stated that 71 year old Negro actor and singer, PAUL ROBESON, was confined to the University of Pennsylvania Hospitsl suffering from a heart condition. The article further stated that ROBESON had been "ailing" since 1951, when he suffered a physical breekdown while touring Burnsapne Pennsylvania Hospital, advised on Jecember » 1969, that ROBESON bi was a patient at the hospital from August 25, 1969 to September 26, 1959, and was under psychiatric care because of "depression," Sources who are familiar with CP and/or CP front froupv activities in the Philadelphia area heve been contacted and were unable toe furnish any informetion of recent activity by ROBESON.
