On the orther hand, East German exploitation of ROBESON's appearance, particularly through GDR contacts in Asia and Afrita, may well be more _ successful. With reference to ROHESON's statement that he may visit the GDR again in August or October, it will be , recalled that East Germany's "national day® is October 7. The following article, which has been translated from the Russian, appeared in the February 26, 1960 edition | —_ of the "Narodna Volya", a Bulgarian language weekly newspaper published at Detroit, Michigan. The House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUCA) cited "Narodna Volya" as a publication which may be safely considered as the organ in the Bulgarian language, of the CP. In this article, ROBESON describes "his great happiness upon returning to the Soviet Union. The diligence and the progress made by the Soviet people has earned them the esteem of the entire world. | Then, ROBESON compares "the waste and the unproductive use of the energy of the people in the West to the Soviet Union where everything 1s utilized and where everybody works to the best of his ability. The only hope there is for the West 1s a basic change. This change might come soon.
