(Yu) oo CONFIDENTIAC NY¥ 2100-25857 Information furnished by the informant | reflected that except to thank the audience for the support he had received in the "fight" for the return — of his passport, and to say that this return was the result of a decision by the Supreme Court, he made no statements of a political or controversial nature. COV hhesaref fier Additional information furnished by NY T-15 Set, reflected that PAUL ROBESON gave a recital before & capacity oats in Usher Halil, Edinburgh, Scotland, According to the informant the Edinburgh Evening News" and the "Bulletin," a morning daily serving both Edinburgh and Glasgow, featured interviews with ROBESON. Both papers quoted him as saying, "My poiitics are to free my people. That is the core of my struggle." The “Evening News" quoted him further as saying "XI don't want any double-talk about the American democracy until my people are as free to walk the earth && anyone else --- if a Negro said things like that in America he was cracked down on." The informant advised further that in the same interview §.:< he stood for the end of nuclear testing, the recognition of China, complete freedom and peace. The November 26, 1956, issue of "Variety," a publication dealing with the entertainment field, on page seventy-three, carried an article entitled, "Robeson Well-Received In Concert in Glasgow." This article reads as follows: : “Glasgow, Nov. 18. “Paul Robeson, making a one-night concert appearance last week at St. Andrew's Hall, was warmly received in a program of German, Gaelic, Yiddish and English folk songs and a reading of the death scene from ‘Othello. * - 16 -
