I asked the small man who y were and he told me they represented Uale & Ramsey, and the 1 man with him was lr. Springer, and his name was Veaver. ‘The tall man, lin. Soringer, said to Mleaver not to talk to me there at the Coffee Shop, but maxe a date with me and talk somewhere else. They oth left. About 10 o'clock that same morning the small man, _— who siid his name was VJeaver, came cack. He started talking to me saying he represented Hale & Ramsey and talked as though IT knew all about the case, but I told nim I kmew very little stout it and dtant' want to know any more about it. Ne wnen said "You know you Jon't want to see those people zo to the penitentiary, you are not that hard nearted." I told him it was immeterial to me what hav- pened to them; that I was not mixed up in tne affair and was not soing to get mixed up in it, if I could keep from it. He asked me a few other questions, and said that I was tneir last chance to nelp save Ramsey and Hale, and ne believed I could help. I asked nim how he figured I could help them. He said that John .2yo made a statement in the preliminary trial about a lot of things, some of weich were not true, and we believe you could valk to John and set him to chanse his testimony. I told him to z0 talk to John, aud he (Weaver) said he couldn't afford to and wouldn't be allawed to. I told him that if he couldn't go way didn't he send some of nis friends. He said for the simple reason that I would have more bearing on John and John would widerstand me better than anyone else. I commenced to get mad and told him to go on and leave me alone as his conversation did not interest me in the least. He then wanted to meet me somehwere or take me out in @ car and talk to me, saying he would treat me just lixe he would his sister or mother.
