UCOK when one of the users attempted to access NOW's webpage.
However, the staff. was not alerted when NOW received eleven
additional threatening / viclent E-mails on April 4, 2000 and
April 7, 2000 from numerous IP addresses, all of which resolved
to the University of Central Oklahoma.
ued a
SA of the FBI Oklahoma City interviewed
of the University .of Central Oklahoma and he
indicated that the UCOK staff was not willing to put in place any
procedures, i.e. sign-ons or passwords, to attempt to identify
computer users nor were they willing to set up a surveillance of
the computers which had been used to transmit the threats.
Furthermore, he indicated that they had not initiated any type of
measure to identify any possible suspects.
The World March of Women was held in Washington DC on
October 15, 2000 with no reported problems and no incidents of
violence. The purpose of the March was to demand an end to
poverty and violence against women. NOW was the primary
organizer for the March.
This case closure request is based on the following
reasons: 1) There are no suspects in this case, 2) The only
viable lead was that all of the threats came from the University
of Central Oklahoma, the staff of which have been uncooperative
with the FBI, 3) The most recent threats were received on
4/7/2000; no additional threats have been received, 4) The March
of Women was held on 10/15/2000 and no incidents occurred.
