t i 1 4 ia aa ae Ae a 1 vad mae 7 NY 100-7629 Sey Gisnren In November of 1910, the first edition of the WAACP official organ, "The Crisis", wes printed with Dr. DU BOIS as its editor. 5 cori STATED AIMS AND OBJ3CUT VEN A review of the Certificate of Incorporat:ion at the Hall of Records, New York County Clerkis Office, on May 11, 1954, revealed that the NAACP filed its certificate for incorporation under the New York State Membership icrporation Laws on June 19, 1911. The principal objects for which the corporation was formed are: To promote equality of rignts end eradica or race prejudice among the citizens of the Unit 1c29%e 2c Sta To advance the interest of colored eitizens. To secure for them impartial suffrage. To inerease their opvortunities for securing justice in the courts, education for their children, empiocyment according to their ability, and complete equallty before the law. To ascertain and publish alli fects bearing upon these Buojects and to take any lawful action thereon; together with any and all things wnaich may lawfully ve done by a membership corporation organized under the laws of the State of New York for the further e@dvancement of these objects. To take, receive, hold, convey, mortgage or assign all such real estate and personal property as may be necessary for the purnoses of this cor orat on. The territory in which the operations of the corporation are principally to be conducted, shal} Le the United States of America. The principal office of the corpvorat’on and the center of its operations shall be in the City, County and State of New Yor but the directors may estaclish branch or auxiliary offices else- where in the United States for the purpose of carrying on the work of the corporation, each tobe manazed by its local organization under such pcewers as lawfully may be prescribed in the by-laws of the corporation.
