The anti-segregation ~Gecisions became the point of departure for every major speaker and for the discussion of the delegates. Thus, an atmosphere of “militant optimism pervaded the convention as never before. Fur- ther, the difficult problems involved in implementation of the decisions, and the challenge to work out specific programs for carrying the fight against segrezation into other fields contributed to a note of seriousness in the deliberations and opened up in the thinking of the delegates many questions which the NAACP has not had to address itself to in the pas ‘
