North Wabash, Chicago, Tllinois, advised that he received
a threatening letter from FRANCIS JUDF BLAKFLY who is also
known as MICHAEL CORLEONE. ROYKO furnished the letter and
envelope dated June 2, 1976, and postmarked June 2, 1976,
at Chicago. The letter stated, "Dear Mr. ROYKO, I won't
be calling you any more, but you'll be hearing From me
other ways. CORLEONE." The envelope contained a return
address of “BLAKELY, 4236 N. Broadway, 60613."
ROYKO advised that he first saw BLAKFLY in March,
1973, when BLAKELY appeatted at his. office at the Daily News
and stated, "I am MICHAEL CORLEONE." BLAKELY told ROYKO
that he wanted to run fox mayor. and that he wanted ROYKO
to handle the campaign. When BLAKELY would not leave,
ROYKO had the building guards escort him out. ROYKO stated
that one time BLAKELY cine in with a minister who was there
to make sure that BLAKELY did not hurt anyone. ROVKN
statéd that BLAKELY had been in the office several times
and had been stopped by 1 ‘bub piing | guards several times
when he attémpted to get tin. BLAKELY also telephoned
numerous timés. ROYKO stated that BLARELY had an intense
way of talking, using cryptic phrases and veiled threats.
ROYKO stated that he had determined that BLAKELY
was a mental patient in 1973 and that he kept escaping
from the institution and would then attempt to contact either
himself (ROYKO) or a Chicago alderman. ROYKO wrote a
column about this in July, 1973.
ROYKO stated that on May 10, 1976, BLAKFLY acain
appeared at his office and had his hand in his coat pocket.
ROYKO told him that -he did. not have time to talk to him and
BLAKELY replied, “I won't put up with this much longer.”
ROYKO stated that the letter was the only letter
he received from BLAKELY, .
