Edgar Hoover Federal Rureau of In fb hee eo he A Ne tk a —_ee Washington, D. C. vestigation Dear Mr. Hoover, Ni : I knew Mr. Melvin Purvis on a casual basis during the time he was alive and also his son. I went to school in Florence, South Carolina for one _ year and it was during this time that I became ac- quainted with Mr. Purvis and his son. Since the death of Mr. Purvis and after trying to get some information together as to the cause of this death, I understand that this was orig- inally ruled as a possible heart attack, but through some various sources I understand that there was some question in the doctors minds as to the cause of death. After doing some intensive reading on Mr. Purvis’ background and noting in one article that I read that someone closely connected with John Dillinger who had been sent up through a conviction of Mr. Purvis' had *% made the statement that he would take care of Mr. 4 Purvis immediately upon his release from prison, a I am not sure how correct my dates are, bute from what I can find out it seems as if this gentleman ee: was released from prison one or two days prior to Mig = Purvis mysterious death. AKA «an MEL Lag I have discussed this matter and Mation that I have compiled with Mr. Branno with the Central Intelligence Agency, during’my trip to Washington and we feel that this certainly. : : would be worth looking into. Mr. May is my wife's, 4 Father's, Brother and this is the reason that I brought this information to his attention and asked his opinion a ~ ; . ; H far ~A t.. | on it. ; Ft a a aaa a - , - td e f/f %Y- jsn y : wf. | 1 .
