On 12/4/44, a Bureau Agent attended a conference at the Wor
Crimes Commission regarding possible adoption of the Bureau's ftling
system by that organization. It appeared that the above group
Commission) had visited the Office of Strategic Services on 12/1/44
and the Bureau Agent learned that Colonel Melvin Purvis had vtsited
the OSS, and in all probabiltty Purvis was the instigator of the utait,
but at no time did any official of the Commission mention that Purvis
was along.

: busy on some other matter whenever the Agent engaged in a conference
or meeting with officials at the War Crimes Commission.
While at the OSS, John Langam of OSS took a punch card and
punched on tt Colonel Purvis' name and typed on it the information:
"Colonel Melvin Purvis, the former G-man who shot John Dillinger."
Langam told Purvis he might like to keep the cards as souvenir's and
with that Purvuts laughed as though he enjoyed the sttuatton and placed
the fifteen punch cardsin hig pocket.

A news item capttoned "Famous Former G-Man Is Major In
Washington" was clipped from the "Carolina Sheriff and Police Review",
1945. The article stated that Melvin Purvts was a major in the Provost
Marshal General's office in Washington. It also stated that Purvis had
declined numerous offers to play a leading role in a movte depicting
John Dillinger's bloody crime career.

On 1/31/45, during the morning news broadcast at 7:30 over
radto atation WTOP, the news announcer menttoned the War Crimes Divutaton
tn the War Department. He stated that Colonel Melvin Purvts was
connected with the work.
