-™ Dear Mr. Fern:

-——.
Thank you for your reply of August 24th to my letter of the 20th to
Senator Stennis, Since your initial interest has been expressed, I can tell
you that the senator referred to ie Edward HM, Kennedy, of Massachusetts,
I heard the Senator's rad{fo/TV explanation of his “aecident" of mid- ;
July 1969, in which Mary Jo Kopechne lost her life from drowxing, in the course
of which he made one particular statement that, due to certefa specific knowl-
edge that I possess, left me with no choice but disbelief. Some time later, I
obtained a published copy of the inquest that was held the fsllosing winter and
3 Lound the same incredible statenent made under oath, alongwith a number of
others that I cannot but regard as perjurious, not only on the pert of Senator .
_ Kennedy but others who ware members of the party.
. A sworn statement of my allegations together with emerlying evidente,
such as you request, would constitute what I want to presen: fo the Committee
J) in person and discuss with them, and I hope the reas for such strong

with the fact, Senator Kennedy stated under oath during the inquest that he:had
left the cottage that evening at 11:15 with the intention of returning directly
to his hotel in Edgartom, after dropping Miss Kopechne off at hers, and that
he was unavare that he had made a “wrong turn" until the moseat just before his
car went off the bridge, I now draw your attention to the fact that Justice
Boyle expressed grave doubt as to the veracity of those statements, (What is °
equally unbelievable to me is that Justice Boyle concerned bimself with whether -
there was “anything criminal in (Senator Kennedy's) oparatim of the motor ver
hicle (emphasis added), rather than the Senator's motive for deliberately turn-
ing teward the bridge instead of the ferry, a6 he (the Juste) obviously sus-
pects. Incidentally, after having read only & portion of the inquest, I wrote -
to Justice Boyle and asked te waom the information should be given if there was
reasoa to believe that perjury had been committed in this faguest. I recoived
